ATLANTA - May 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Join Fly Philanthropy Inc. this year for the Annual Scholar Award Ceremony. This empowering night, celebrating youth and education, will take place May 31, 2013 at Georgia World Congress Center located at 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA. From 7-10 pm, we will be honoring tomorrow’s greatest leaders by awarding scholarships to students pushing beyond adversities. Reaching for the stars, and finding success.

Fly Philanthropy is an organization dedicated to revitalizing the community through community activities and scholarships. Although it drives many community projects such as Back to School with Tools, Healthy Smiles, and Knowledge Over Emotions: Bigger Than AIDS Charity Fundraiser, it is best known for its Reaching for the Stars Annual Scholarship Project. Because studies show that the retention rate is much higher amongst African American students if they stay on campus their first 2 years, since 2007 the purpose of this program has been to give back to the community by awarding scholarships to ten public school seniors who are transitioning from home to the college campus. There is no GPA requirement. All Fly Philanthropy requires is that each student is enrolled at a college or university and will be staying on campus. The students each receive a refrigerator, microwave, dorm accessories (bedding, lamp, mirror and towel set), care basket and school supplies. The Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony marks the end of Fly Philanthropy’s scholarship drive and is when each student will receive their gifts.

This year through a partnership with Changing Stages and PR Primas, Fly Philanthropy decided to focus on the plight of African Americans & education. “After studying the rapid decline in enrollment and graduation rates among African Americans, it saddens me that a vital part of the American culture is being left behind which frightens me to think about the success and even survival of our existence. So it is as necessity to encourage everyone to play their role in preserving our future, no matter how big or small!”  Says Fly Philanthropy founder Della Williams.

This year’s event, hosted by Mr. Jose Cuervo and Diana Watley, will be a red carpet event to remember, including a motivational speech by Joe Johnson of Joejohnsonspeaks.com.
