LAUREL, MD – Crystal Rush, of Newark, Delaware, was crowned Miss Delaware International 2013 this past January.   Rush obtained her undergraduate degree from Wilmington University with a major in Business with a focus in organizational management after transferring from DelTech Community College. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree Wilmington University, and expects to graduate in August 2013.  She will represent the state in the Miss International pageant this July in Chicago, Illinois.

Crystal, whose niece lives with Autism, chose to compete in the International pageant system because she wants her to have the best possible life. “I feel that this is only possible if everyone is understanding and aware of what autism truly is and how people live with it”, Rush said.  “I now have a microphone to raise awareness. This has allowed me opportunity to speak with the public on a regular basis and become more involved and help various organizations while also sharing my platform.”  

Since receiving the title she has founded a chapter of Autism Speaks U at Wilmington University as well as raised more than $800 from family, friends and well-wishers for the Autism Delaware’s Walk in April.  Her passion helped her surpass her original goal of $500 for the walk.  Most recently, she donated  $500 to Autism Speaks U to assist with costs distributing brochures and information internationally. As Miss Delaware International 2013, she is looking to partner with organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region who are working to raise awareness and benefit individuals with Autism.
