NEW YORK - May 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Edgar Perez, author of The Speed Traders, An Insider's Look at the New High-Frequency Trading Phenomenon That is Transforming the Investing World (http://www.TheSpeedTraders.com), spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in Washington DC on myths and realities of high-frequency trading and offered a preview of his forthcoming book Knightmare on Wall Street (http://www.KnightmareonWallStreet.com), the Knight Capital story.

Knight Capital was one of the companies whose fortune had risen as U.S. regulators made a series of changes in the structure of financial markets over the last 15 years. On Wednesday August 1, 2012, 9:30am, right after the markets opened for the day, the firm would issue an unprecedented number of erroneous orders into the market. What followed after this shocking announcement were rounds of conversations with a number of players that had smelled blood and were ready to pick up the pieces, if not stopped by an unprecedented frantic telephone activity in an industry where everybody knows everybody. Knightmare on Wall Street is the behind-the-scenes story of this epic event; it will provide a comprehensive account of what took to elevate Knight Capital to the cusp of the investing revolution of the late 1990s and what almost brought down the firm.

CFR's mission is to be “a resource for its members, official, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens in order to help them better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries.” The CFR aims to maintain a diverse membership, including special programs to promote interest and develop expertise in the next generation of foreign policy leaders. It convenes meetings at which government officials, global leaders and prominent members of the foreign policy community discuss major international issues. Its think tank, the David Rockefeller Studies Program, is composed of about fifty adjunct and full-time scholars, as well as ten in-resident recipients of year-long fellowships, who cover the major regions and significant issues shaping today's international agenda. These scholars contribute to the foreign policy debate by making recommendations to the presidential administration, testifying before Congress, serving as a resource to the diplomatic community, interacting with the media, authoring books, reports, articles, and op-eds on foreign policy issues.
