CONNOLLY, Ireland - May 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Almost 500 students entered the competition which was adjudicated by Dolores O’Halloran (Clare Volunteer Centre), Karen Dunn (Graphic Designer) and Domhnall O Loinsigh (An Clár as Gaeilge).

The overall winner was Shauna Kearney (Ennis National School) who was presented with a school tour for her class to Clare Leisure World in Ennis and a family pass to Air Atlantic Venture in Shannon. The 11 Runners Up prizes went to Alison McCarthy (St Mochulla’s N.S., Tulla), Lena Pawlowska and Ellen Smith (Ennis N.S.), Amy Senton AND Amie Louise Doherty (Clooney N.S.), Kate Singleton (Scoil Mhuire, Corofin), Amy O Sullivan (Barefield N.S.), Ciara HayeS (Rineen N.S., Miltown Malbay), Kaylee Mc Coy (Scoil Na Maighdine Mhuire, Newmarket on Fergus), and Jelena Macura and Eizar Makejev (Holy Family Senior School).

Sharon Meaney, Manager of the Clare Volunteer Centre said: “We would like to thank all of the entrants who took the time to create such amazing pieces of art, the winning entries will appear on postcards which will be available during the ‘Welcoming Claires to County Clare weekend’.  The standard of artwork was extremely high and it was fantastic to see how proud the artists were of County Clare”.

Adjudicator Domhnall O Loinsigh also praised the standard of the competition entries. He commented: "Bhí caighdeán na hoibre a cuireadh isteach iontach ard agus tá an-chreidiúnt ag dul do na daoine óga a bhí chomh dáiríre sin faoi. Ba dheas an bealach a d'úsáid siad an Ghaeilge chun an choincheap de 'Fáilte chuig an Clár' a chur trasna" a dúirt sé.

The Clare Volunteer Centre, supported by the Gathering Clare Steering Committee, is inviting people with the name Claire, Clair or Clare to travel to Ennis on 23rd June to beat the world record for the greatest number of people sharing the same name to gather in one location at the same time.

To date, the largest gathering of people with the same first name is 1,096 Mohammeds as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival at Creek Park, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 10 February 2005. The previous record for a same-name gathering was created by 375 "Marias" in Spain in 2003.

The Clare Gathering event forms part of the ‘Welcoming Claire to County Clare, Ireland’ project, one of the estimated 230 Gathering festivals and events taking place throughout County Clare during 2013. For more visit www.welcomingclairetoclare.com and also www.facebook.com/welcomingclairetoclare.
