Follow on Google News | Work Experience Week at Open Doors MediaBy: Open Doors Media Ltd Open Doors Media is happy to announce the start of their work experience period, in which young people can get a taste for the journalism and publishing industries. As people in their respective businesses will already know, gaining work experience is vital to breaking through into the professional world and the experience gained from spending a week in a working environment can really give the student a taste of what they can expect from their future career. The journalism industry is highly competitive, probably more so than any other sector, so gaining the right experience for the future is vital for future job hopes. It’s not just about learning the trade; work experience provides young people with an insight into what it’s like to do spend a day in a working environment and see if their chosen career path is for them. Open Doors Media publish the Careers World Magazine which goes out to nearly every educational institution and careers advisor in the country completely free of charge. They also print the ‘What Apprenticeship?’ Matt Pimley, who wants to be a Journalist, will spend the week learning all about the industry, from writing articles and press releases to social media and advertising. Speaking about his placement, Matt said “I have always enjoyed reading and writing and this work experience week will hopefully give me an insight into the media industry with all its different careers opportunities so that I can gain some knowledge about my future prospects.” Matt, from Bishop Monkton, North Yorkshire, will spend the week with the editor, the design team and the sales team seeing how a magazine is created, from the conceptual stage right through to the final product. He’ll also be learning about the importance of having an online presence, via social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as the Careers World Website. Notes for the Editor 1. Open Doors publish 155,000 copies of their magazine a year, which breaks down into 3 copies per annum to coincide with the start of each educational term. 2. Careers World Magazine was recently endorsed by the Careers Mark, becoming the first publication to achieve this prize. This recognises it as the number 1 publication for careers guidance material in the country. 3. Images available upon request. 4. Tom Haymes was recently installed as the full time editor of Careers World Magazine and its sister publication, the ‘What Apprenticeship?’ End
