I-ology Celebrates 15 years of Transforming Organizations Throughout Arizona
The date was April 10, 1998. In Arizona, a young female entrepreneur with $2,000 and a laptop was starting her own digital revolution in her best friend's spare bedroom.
Back then, Trish Bear, founder of Scottsdale-based I-ology - which today celebrates its 15-year anniversary - was selling companies on the idea of Internet email and explaining how this new Internet "thing" could actually help their company drive revenue, growth and profit. In her first year, she booked a mere $30,000 in sales. The following year, she booked 10 times that. And she hasn't looked back since.
"I didn't know the first thing about starting a business," Bear said. "I just knew that there were a lot of companies trying to figure out what to do with this new tool, called the World Wide Web. I could see that it was about to transform the way both companies and people communicated, as well as, operated. I had a real passion for helping them figure it out."
Bear has long moved on from the spare bedroom, and last year settled into stylish new digs with her team at The Scottsdale Quarter. But Bear will be the first to tell you that they now do much more than design websites.
"We are a boutique firm of Web Integration Specialists committed to revolutionizing the way companies use the Internet to do business," Bear said. "We create fully functional, customized Web business tools that streamline everything from marketing activities and customer support to internal processes and administration."
I-ology has received numerous awards over the past 15 years in fields such as fastest-growing high-tech companies and Ranking Arizona: The Best of Arizona Businesses. Most recently, the company was named one of the "Best Places to Work" in Phoenix Business Journal's 2012 ranking of Valley companies, which Bear credits to a rigorous hiring process that emphasizes employee integrity and a drive to be the best.
"I-ology experienced some tough times in 2007 and 2008, where hard decisions were made and I had to downsize the business," Bear said. "However, that time turned out to be a blessing in disguise and now we've come back stronger and more focused than ever."
In addition to leading a thriving company, Bear makes certain that she stays active in the community. A committed statewide community thought leader, Bear has served as Chairman and Executive Committee Member for Special Olympics of Arizona, is the incoming Chairman for the Western Affiliate Division of the American Heart Association and she continues to serve on the national board for First Fidelity Bank.
