Follow on Google News | Governor Proclaims State Championship Status to Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ Cook-OffIllinois Governor Pat Quinn proclaims Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ Cook-Off as official state competition, allowing winners to qualify for national competitions and giving high status to the growing event.
By: Bridge Communities “This will definitely give us a leg up on other contests in Illinois,” raved Greg Bane, co-founder and coordinator of the event. “This designation will also encourage competitors to sign up faster so they can get into an officially sanctioned competition.” This marks the fifth year of the Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ Cook-Off, an event that originated as a small block party among Glen Ellyn neighbors. Since its inception, the event has benefitted Bridge Communities, a grassroots transitional housing program for homeless families in DuPage County. The event has quickly grown in volume and status and is now widely known as a signature event for Glen Ellyn. In addition to the BBQ competition, the BBQ features headliner blues bands such as Glen Ellyn’s own Amy Kelly Band, as well as Cadillac Dave and other blues greats. Great BBQ will be available to purchase from some of Chicago's top pitmasters. An extremely popular bags tournament engages event-goers of all ages.
