By: EUM Consultants The figures have shown that 15,000 more people were unemployed compared to earlier on in the year in March. This has happened at the same time that there have been more vacancies available in the United Kingdom since 2008. “It is incredibly unfortunate that we are still in the situation that unemployment is rising, companies including ourselves have openings available, and looking at the figures there are more openings available than ever before, so it is disappointing that unemployment continues to rise” says Mark McAlear, managing Director of EUM Consultants. Not only has unemployment risen, but one of the United Kingdom’s largest banks have announced that they may potentially cut 14,000 jobs as part of a restructuring plan, reduce costs and increase profitability. The bank is aiming to save 2 billion pounds, and cut the 14,000 jobs in the next few years. However the news is sad for many who’s jobs are at risk. “Everyday there are news reports of companies ‘doing their bit’ for the economy, whether it’s through training or creating extra jobs, and it is very sad to hear that such a well-known company could be cutting so many jobs, and with unemployment so high, these people are looking at a tough road ahead!” says Alex Tsimboykas, sales director of EUM Consultants. There is however some light at the end of the tunnel, many have stated that the constant rise in unemployment is slowly coming to an end, giving hope for jobseekers and those that have just, or are about to lose their jobs. “We may have not seen direct facts to back this up, however if it is on the horizon that unemployment will drop soon, then job seekers should be excited” says Mark McAlear, managing director of EUM consultants. With the economy still unbalanced, every day we wake up, we don’t know what to expect in the news. One fact for sure is that any news about unemployment steadying is good news. End
