‘art place berlin’ shows: Anna Tessenow - ‘Portraits, Figures, Landscapes’ - Painting

Her works are created in the style of the 'Neuen Leipziger Schule', with a combination of figurative and abstract elements. The most prominent representative of this style is Neo Rauch, who was - like Anna Tessenow - one of Prof Arno Rink's students.

May 16, 2013 - PRLog -- "It's the idea of a pleasant, friendly, modern room, a room of light, warmth and beauty which is inspiring for me. To design and to create means intellectual abstraction, the simplification of details, expanse, colour and space. While painting I feel free and unlimited in my expression. For me expanse means endless dimension, freedom." - Anna Tessenow

Anna Tessenow - born in Makranstädt, grown up in Güstrow/Mecklenburg - studied at the "Hochschule für Grafik and Buchkunst Leipzig" in Professor Arno Rink's class from 1996 to 2002. After her graduation she became one of his master students.

Anna Tessenow's works were shown at international art fairs in Paris, Karlsruhe and Zürich. Among other the Cotton Spinning Mill Leipzig, the Gallery Frank Pages in Baden-Baden, Schulz Contemporary Berlin and the Gallery Lux in Berlin presented her works.

"Anna Tessenow leads the viewer into a strict, sometimes seemingly fantastic world of architectural painting. She characterises her paintings as "poor coloured architecture" and they express "modern architecture and spaces in contemporary media-aesthetics". Her arrangements - similar to sets - present themselves in a way which is cool and distant, time diagnostic, rather realistic than utopian in spite of the renunciation of details which is caused by a schematic way of creation.

Anna Tessenow's definite painting does without any superfluous parts and doesn't disappear in a quotation accumulation which aims at a metaphorical interpretation. She isn't bothered about event painting but is confined to give clues for the imagination of everybody, to arouse longings in the one or fundamental scepticism in the other.

The artist says in the description of her artistic conception that she is looking for "a contemporary manifestation for individuality to hold something in its complete sensory dimension - something which seems to be alive at all times - and to move in a non-verbal room where painting starts." - Jürgen Schilling

The exhibition runs until June 10th, 2013, daily 9am – 9pm, entrance free
