NEW YORK - May 16, 2013 - PRLog -- On Wednesday, May 22nd, 6 to 9pm, DeZign Intervention™, an innovative networking movement, presents “MADE II: HAMMER & PEEN by THEODORE GREEN.   Theodore Green builds shoes by hand in the tradition of artisan shoemaking. Inspired by Italian craftsmen he observed working in small workshops in Florence, Theodore is well-known for his impeccably tailored oxfords and boots for men. His latest showing, Hammer & Peen will allow the audience to get up and personal - providing a glimpse into the process of this talented artist; and will feature samples from his upcoming women's collection.  Internationally renowned musical stylist, DJ Kamala will be on hand – spinning an eclectic mix. The event will be held at the stylish Brooklyn Terrace, located in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn.
ABOUT THE SHOEMAKER

Shoemaking in America is as old as the country itself, coming over with the first European settlers in the early 17th century. In Massachusetts, cities like Brockton, Lynn and Haverhill had prosperous shoemaking industries by the mid-1600’s.  Theodore Green is one of the few hand builders of shoes in the area.  He specializes in classic oxfords for men, but makes fashionable women’s shoes as well.

Inspired by Italian craftsmen whom he observed working in small shoemaking workshops in Florence, Theodore studied old shoemaking manuals and foot anatomy for better insight on the craft.  In addition, he sought out mentors like Ron Donovan NYC, and Bev and Steve Gilger of Duboise Leather in Idaho who were instrumental in providing support early. Theodore combines hand and machine work to blend clean, simple lines with strength and sturdiness. Among his most important tools are last- model forms used to mold the shoe. He has many custom shapes both wooden and plastic.

As for the process, he builds up leather over the last to fit the shape.  Then, he adds the insole onto the last and stitches the two components together.  Later in the process, Theodore builds the toe- cap, welt and heels for finishing.  “It’s a different way of looking at sculpting,” he says.   Theodore enjoys the traditional techniques of this independent art form. With these techniques he is capable of redefining his individual voice through shoemaking. The result is a constant push in creativity as he seeks to produce a “wearable tool” that inspires us all.
