Georgia Youth Rugby Association (GYRA) Hosts U16 State Championship

ATLANTA - May 15, 2013 - PRLog -- The Phoenix Colts 2013 season culminated last night in their winning the inaugural GYRA Colts championship by defeating the Pope Greyhounds by 41-10 at North Park. It was a comprehensive victory that was well deserved for the home team.  The previous week the Phoenix senior team had defeated the Lambert High School team, leaving the club undefeated in this tournament.  Winning the championship was notable in that the Phoenix Colts were playing against freshmen and sophomores drawn from the high school squads of both Lambert and Pope. Another notable aspect of the match was that no less than 18-20 Phoenix players were given playing time during the championships match; both novices and veterans of this squad were able to contribute to winning the championship.

The Pope team scored two very good tries that were well deserved as they fought hard despite the mounting Phoenix scoreboard. It was a spirited match and both teams behaved well on and off the field, a credit to their coaches.  It was clearly a team effort that won the match.

Overall this has been a great second season for the Colts; they compiled a winning record of 10-5 as they toured the southeast region and winning the championship was a fitting end.
