CHARLESTON, S.C. - May 14, 2013 - PRLog -- After a long winter, spring comes alive in Charleston,SC. We are anxious to attend the many celebrations and festivals, some focusing on our beautiful environment and the beautiful plants and trees indigenous to our area.

These blooming beauties are all about propagation and with spring, blooms and buds come high pollen counts. Oak, pine and birch trees as well as a number of grass and weed pollens  are triggers to a common condition known to many Charleston area inhabitants as hay fever or allergic rhinitis.

The worst offender bursts into action in mid summer - ragweed. Symptoms of seasonal pollen allergies include

•  a runny nose
• cough
•  itchy eyes
• fatigue
•  irritability

In this video Dr. Ball discusses Ragweed Allergy, the symptoms and available treatments. http://www.youtube.com/embed/EP329OizE5I

According to the board certified allergists at Charleston Allergy (http://www.charlestonallergy.com) Some people treat their symptoms with over-the-counter medicine, but allergic rhinitis can worsen if not diagnosed and treated properly. If OTC medications don't successfully relieve symtoms, the condition can lead to sinus and ear infections and asthma.  Also, many people will find the side affect of the OTC medication troublesome as well, the haziness and drowsiness often attributed to OTC medications.

Dr. Ball and the staff of Charleston Allergy believes the best plan for fully enjoying the season is to know and treat the cause, not the symptoms.
