THE SKETCH ARTIST NY Premiere at Art of Brooklyn Film Festival, Manhattan Premiere at NY Shorts Fest

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - May 13, 2013 - PRLog -- The Sketch Artist, an award-winning short film written and directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Maxwell Newman-Plotnick, will have its New York premiere at this year's third annual Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (http://www.aobff.org/), on May 18, followed by a Manhattan premiere at the second annual New York International Short Film Festival (http://nyshortsfest.com/ny/content.asp?PageID=1), on May 29.

The Sketch Artist is a drama about has-been comic book artist and current police sketch artist Reid Freidman. Desperate to resuscitate his fading career, he copies the work of a police officer’s teenage son, a promising artist, and mails it to his agent. Having second thoughts, he enlists a mysterious kleptomaniac to help him retrieve the plagiarized work before it’s delivered. The film previously won Best Undergraduate Drama at the 2012 Ivy Film Festival in Providence, RI. A trailer is viewable below. Representatives of the film can be reached at press@sketchartistfilm.com.

The first screening will take place at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival at the Founder's Hall Theater of St. Francis College (180 Remsen St, Brooklyn, NY, 11201) on Saturday May 18 at 5:00pm, in Block 2 of its Shorts Program. The AoBFF is happy to provide press passes to journalists who email credentials to filmfestival@theartofbrooklyn.org. Soon after, it will screen in Program 4 of the New York Shorts Fest on Wednesday May 29, at 5:15pm, at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema (143 E. Houston St, New York, NY 10002).

Now in its third year, the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (AoBFF) is the only international film festival to showcase films and filmmakers that are Brooklyn-born, Brooklyn-based, or Brooklyn-centric. The AoBFF has been featured in the 2012 festivals issue of TIME OUT NY, The Village Voice, The New York Times, and key online resources like Flavorpill and Brooklyn Based. This year the festival is sponsored by Yelp! and HBO.

The 2nd New York International Short Film Festival, or NY Shorts Fest, created by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences accredited Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, will return to the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York City, May 28 - 30, 2013. NY Shorts Fest provides a showcase for the best short-form cinema and its creators in the world. This year NY Shorts Fest's partners include DV Expo East, ProductionHUB, and Eurochannel.

The Sketch Artist takes place in the bitter upstate New York cold, and it was shot by a crew that hails predominantly from the city in the dead of the winter of 2011, during upstate New York’s two biggest blizzards in recent memory. It stars New York stage and screen actor and one-time courtroom artist Alex Emanuel (Buster, House of Cards, All of My Children) as Reid Freidman, the film’s titular police sketch artist. It also features star performances from veteran New York actor Rick Zahn (Premium Rush, 30 Rock, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), relative newcomers Angela Gulner (Glee, Love: As You Like It), trained at the American Repertory Theater, and David Armanino, a PACE acting student recently featured in BroadwayWorld.com, and Boston actor Tim Goff.
