KAIST(Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) university students filmed a parody of the film Les Miserables entitled “Les KAISTroubles”. “Les KAISTrouble” compared the lives of KAIST students, who are always overworked with experiments, exams, coding, and lab reports, to Jean Valjean. Advisory professors who are always giving out a mountain-load of work to their students were portrayed as Javert.

Jean Valjean’s girlfriend, Cosette, is disillusioned by the grueling everyday life of a college student, as it is radically different from the one she had romanticized about. She spends her days longingly waiting to see Jean Valjean, who is busy working on projects.

“Les KAISTroubles” contains all six numbers that were used in “Les Militaribles” (a popular Les Miserables parody filmed by the Republic of Korea Air Force), and three additional songs. With the popular songs “One Day More”, “Master of the House” and “Drink with Me”, “Les KAISTroubles” was able to successfully recreate the heartfelt mood of the original movie.

The production of “Les KAISTrouble” was done entirely by KAIST students. Junior Seung Hoon Choi from the Department of Mathematical Sciences took on the role of producer and director, and junior Seungjoon Lee from the Department of Biological Sciences was responsible for filming and editing. The staff and cast included the KAIST drama club Ibagutor, the KAIST choir Chorus, and the music composition club LP.

The Office of Student Support and the Undergraduate Student Council helped finance the project, and the Public Relations Office provided some of the filming equipment. With the exception of a bar, all scenes were filmed on the KAIST campus. Some main locations included a lecture room, a shuttle bus, and a café.

On May 9, the “Les KAISTrouble” production team held a public screening at the Creative Learning Building. The video was officially revealed on YouTube on May 10. Following link contains the video : http://youtu.be/nzPFT_yAwrw
