Devon Prep Announces New Varsity Basketball Coaches

DEVON, Pa. - May 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Devon Preparatory School recently appointed Mr. Jason Fisher as head coach of the school’s varsity basketball team. Fisher will begin coaching in the 2013-14 basketball season.  In addition, Mr. Kevin Carroll has been appointed assistant coach.

Fisher replaces longtime Tide coach Bill Frio, who retired after 16 years with the Devon Prep basketball program.  According to Fisher, who most recently served as head coach of Holy Ghost Prep’s junior varsity basketball team, his new position is a way to continue a tradition. “This is a great opportunity to build on an already great basketball program,” he said. “Devon Prep is a school and team with a great tradition of always working hard and giving everything they possibly could.”

Fisher has an extensive background in playing and coaching basketball.  In addition to seven years as jv head coach at Holy Ghost Prep, he also served as the head coach of Holy Ghost Prep’s AAU basketball team, and head coach of Lower Bucks AAU basketball for 16 -18 year old males.  In addition, Fisher has coached jv soccer at Holy Ghost Prep.

He was also the head coach of the University of Scranton men’s junior varsity basketball team for two years; is NCAA certified as a basketball coach; and even toured with the Harlem Globetrotters for a year after graduating from college.

Fisher holds a BS from the University of Scranton, where he was a four year starter on their basketball team, and a MA from LaSalle University.

Devon Prep’s new assistant varsity coach, Kevin Carroll, is also experienced as a coach and player. He played varsity basketball for Gettysburg College for four years, and most recently served as the assistant coach of Holy Ghost Prep’s junior varsity basketball team.  Carroll also coached Holy Ghost Prep’s AAU team. He holds a BA from Gettysburg College.

For their first year at Devon Prep Fisher and Carroll hope to instill and foster a sense of hard work in the team as a foundation for the future.  “I hope to instill the fundamental principles that not only make great basketball players, but also will help the young men in life: hard work, discipline and determination to name a few,” Fisher explained. “If we can achieve that it would be a great foundation for future goals.”

Devon Prep is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six through 12 conducted by the Piarist Fathers.
