Quality Life Center Leader to Speak at Lee Democratic Women’s Club

FORT MYERS, Fla. - May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The Executive Director of Quality Life Center, Abdul’Haq Muhammed will be speaking to the Lee County Democratic Women’s Club on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. on May 11 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Myers. He will speak about current issues in the community, the work being done at the center, and how courage and commitment are necessary to create an environment for opportunity, particularly for children stuck in poverty.

The Democratic Women’s Club will be presenting the organization a check for $1000. The funds will pay for an entire summer of activities for an at-risk child at Quality Life Center’s Summer Camp. In addition to summer camp, the center also provides afterschool and teen leadership programs. Youth programs are structured and include academics, character development and performing arts such as dance, drama and music. The program promotes leadership and instills values which serve youth into adulthood, including manners and respect. In addition to academics, the arts are stressed to instill discipline, confidence and the ability to persevere.

Muhammed grew up in the projects in Harlem. Before coming to Fort Myers, Muhammed worked as a drug counselor, a youth counselor, a sensitivity trainer for the NY Police Department, and founded a nonprofit in the Bronx, working with the neediest populations, from at-risk youth to ex-offenders. He has received numerous awards for his work in the Dunbar community, including those from Florida’s Governor, Florida’s Attorney General, the Lee County Bar Association, Gulfshore Business Magazine, as well as Person of the Year and Trailblazer Awards from the News-Press. Muhammed inspires a spirit of excellence at the center, and is active in the community.
