May 16 - 31 Programming for The State Theatre

The State Theatre continues its action-packed May programming schedule with a variety of musical, film, and local acts that are great for families looking for affordable ways to spend time together. We’ve recapped each one for you below.
 
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - May 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Friday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m., State College Community Theatre presents Born Yesterday, a comedy theatre performance by Garson Kanin, following one man’s journey through Washington D.C. as he attempts to juggle politics and his love life. Performances will also take place Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m. You can catch Born Yesterday the following weekend with performances on Friday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 18 at 7:00 p.m., Bring out the whole family for a night of fun and adventure at the State Theatre. Singing Onstage Productions presents The Little Mermaid JR. Heidi Biever directs this adaptation of the 2008 Broadway production that follows a young mermaid in her quest to leave the ocean. Additional performances will also take place Sunday, May 19 at 3:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m., Come out to the State Theatre for a “Greats at the State” screening of the romantic comedy film The Philadelphia Story starring James Stewart, winner of a Best Actor Oscar, and the timeless Katherine Hepburn. This romantic comedy follows a Philadelphia socialite’s journey of self-discovery.

 Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m., Singing Onstage Productions presents Godspell JR, a fun-packed, kid-friendly musical based on The Gospel according to St. Matthew. This musical offers a unique reflection on the life of Jesus Christ, featuring well-known songs as well as a message of love and kindness.

Thursday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m., Take a closer look at the behind-the-scenes work of 1974 British politicians as they attempt to change the nation’s future in National Theatre Live’s theatrical drama This House screened by The State Theatre.

Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m., In this stage adaptation of a Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast JR takes the audience on an unforgettable journey of love as Belle rescues her captured father and unleashes the prince within the beast. Directed by Heidi Biever and choreographed by Jill A. Brighton, Singing Onstage Productions delivers another action-filled family musical.
