Glasgow Web Firm Launches Social Inclusion Initiative
Glasgow company to offer free services to charities and voluntary organisations in Scotland.
XLWEB, an web marketing agency, based in Glasgow’s west end, are offering free advice, support and services to help charities, voluntary groups and societies which don't have the funds or staff to resource their websites, online activity, PR and communications activities.
The real benefit will be the financial savings the organisations will receive as XLWEB will help them set up and manage their websites, marketing strategies, branding, data hosting and email for free.
Other help includes training staff in marketing including public relations, website design, and copywriting.
Owner of XLWEB, James McInally, said: “Glasgow has a great tradition of helping people and we’ve noticed that although most people are familiar with social media, there’s always a shortfall in website design, marketing and other technical services that the groups need to help raise awareness and funds. Website design can be costly and many local organisations just can’t afford a decent online presence without forking out thousands of pounds – and then there’s continuing support costs. Our goal is to help as many Glasgow organisations as possible compete with the rest of the country for funding and, in turn, help those that need the charity or group services.
The groundbreaking move is an example of a private sector business with a strong regard for social justice providing a helping hand by delivering expertise free - and paying for it out of its own profits.
So what makes the organisation offer these services? James explains: “We have third sector clients that need a proper, professional online service but don’t have the funds to cover them as operating in today’s market requires substantial resources to be thrown at online activities and, essentially, these cost money. Every penny in the organisations we help needs to be given to front line support, so we decided to help them out. It’s been rewarding and we can see the benefits our services bring as we help them become more visible and they gather awareness in the general public. Having their website high in Google can be the difference between success and failure for a lot of these organisations.
XLWEB are a small enterprise with James at the head, whose career has been in marketing for various organisations from higher education to the very competitive world of private alcohol rehab, as well as a manager at one of the UK’s leading digital marketing agencies. He is helped out by a website designer and online marketing executive.
One such organisation that has seen the benefits of their social inclusion initiative is a Scottish-based charity that helps people overcome alcohol and drugs. UK Recovery Walks helps people overcome their addiction by providing support, advocacy and a voice to people affected by addiction.
Charity spokeperson, Anne Marie Ward, said: “We needed help with all of our marketing material on start-up but didn’t have much money. Luckily James at XLWEB built our site and provided the hosting and email system we needed to get off the ground and start getting donations."
