Infiniti is Considering a New Flagship Sedan and Coupe

Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen, speaking to Car and Driver, said that the vehicle will likely be “an upscale, very emotional, high-performance luxury sedan.” He also indicated that the vehicle, whatever form it might take, it could be available as a coupe, too, saying, “I think we need some kind of sexy sports car that might share powertrains and platforms” with the flagship sedan.

Beyond these statements, all that’s known about this mysterious future flagship vehicle is that it won’t be a production version of the Infiniti Emerg-E Concept (http://www.infinitiusa.com/now/future-vehicles/the-infini...). De Nysschen was quick to dismiss the notion, saying, “the world isn’t ready yet for a $200,000 Infiniti.”

It can be surmised that Infiniti’s next flagship sedan isn’t going to be a traditional vehicle, and this isn’t likely to compete directly with vehicles like the BMW 7-Series or BMW S-Class. One other example of a non-traditional flagship vehicle is the Porsche Panamera—it’s possible that Infiniti’s next flagship model could be similarly outside-the-box.

Regardless, the next flagship sedan will surely hit all of the bases. Given the Infiniti brand, it goes without saying that the vehicle will come with some of the most advanced comfort and convenience features available; while a high-performance coupe model will likely cater more to driving enthusiasts.
