?Police take over The Printworks Pump Yard for a 12 hour charity bike?

At 11am on Saturday 11th May Greater Manchester Police will be at The Printworks to cycle 205 miles all in the name of charity. The money raised will go to helping young children in Ethiopia and Uganda.

MANCHESTER, U.K. - May 8, 2013 - PRLog -- The money raised will allow the four police officers from Bootle Street Police Station to help young children in Ethiopia and Uganda.

Sarah Pickstone, Scott Taylor, Joanne Green and Jo Shaw of Bootle Street police station will all be going to Addis Ababa and this is where the distance for the event has come from.  A total of 16 officers will be heading to Kampala, Uganda and 16 to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Sarah Pickstone, explains;

“The next 6 months is going to be very challenging for each of us, taking part in a wide range of events in order to raise funds for Retrak, in and around Manchester City Centre. Any contributions are all greatly appreciated.

Virgin Active will provide the officers with the bikes for their mammoth cycle ride of 205 miles, during the 12-hour event in the Pump Yard.  The distance is the equivalent of cycling around the circumference of Addis Ababa City Centre. The four officers from Bootle Street will be joined by 28 other officers and firefighters. They are all looking to raise at least £2000 and are down at The Printworks to kick off their fundraising for the children of Ethiopia and Uganda.

Sarah urges the public to 'Please come down to The Printworks to support us at our first team event”

Greater Manchester Police work closely with Retrak, a charity that works to inspire street kids and that focuses on doing everything for the children on the street. A spokes person from Retrak explains;

“Retrak have been privileged to work with Greater Manchester Police for the last four years. The teams make lasting difference to children's lives, completing renovations to our centers, training our staff and bringing joy to the children through activities. The team of police officers we have coming out with us this November are working hard to fundraise which is difficult in the current climate. The cycling event at The Printworks is going to be one of the highlights this year - and tough for them - but it'll also be a great day raising money for our vital work."

The Printworks, The Greater Manchester Police and Retrak are urging people to come down and cheer on the officers as well as to donate any children's clothes (old and new), football clothing, any toys, sporting, educational equipment and anything that young children would appreciate. The officers will try to take as much as possible; everything that gets left behind will be donated to The Manchester Cathedral.

Fred Booth, The Printworks Centre Director said;

“We’re very happy to be able to help the GMP and Retrak with this event. We work very closely with the GMP on a daily basis and we’re grateful that Virgin Active has been able to loan their bikes in order for this great fundraiser to be possible. These officers are doing an excellent job in supporting us, the people of Manchester and so let’s support them. We hope that the people of Manchester comes down and cheer on our great officers.”

On the day there will also be a raffle with a chance to win a signed Manchester City shirt as well as other great prizes.
