May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- 5 May was World Laughter Day. Laughter Yoga leaders trained by lightbulb, celebrated by running a free event at the Mac, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham.

Coventry Author and poet Sue Maggott  joined in the fun. She trained as a leader after taking early retirement from the Civil Service.

‘I was undertaking a lot of personal development and came across Laughter Yoga. I decided to sign up, it sounded fun, and enjoyable.  The best thing about Laughter Yoga is that you can laugh for no reason and receive positive health benefits from doing so!  You can do it anywhere really, and it is contagious. So, if you start off faking it, you usually end up laughing for real. However, if you just fake it, you still get great benefits from doing it!!   I’ve realised that there is a fun side to my personality, that I enjoy laughing and spreading joy. Laughter Yoga helps us to do this in a simple, yet beneficial way.  The ability to laugh at yourself can be very helpful with self-belief too.   It can be easy to take ourselves too seriously at times, I know that I have spent many years over-analysing.  Sometime just laughing at ourselves or the situation can free up negative emotions and help us shift into a different mindset!’

Sue mentions her love of laughter yoga in her latest book which is a memoir about her experiences since leaving work: Believe in You, Believe in Your Story. ‘There is a whole poem I wrote about a laughter yoga session I participated in during my training in the book. I’m really enjoyed Sunday. It was a great experience to work with the other leaders and share lots of laughter with the people of Birmingham.’

Extract from an article about Believe! The Gift of Inspiration For Female Entrepreneurs:

When Sue Maggott wrote her poem Believe!, little did she know that it would lead to the publication of a book.

But shortly after, momentum grew and a series of events compelled Sue  to compile an anthology containing stories, poems and exercises from inspirational entrepreneurs.

The book Believe! The Gift Of Inspiration For Female Entrepreneurs will be published in paperback in early May.

This is how Sue describes writing the Believe! poem.

‘Visualise, if you will, an unsuspecting middle-aged woman, in a faux grey fur dressing gown, idly browsing the messages on her computer screen. Next, watch with wonder, as a magnetic pull charges from her brain, through her body, to her fingers. Opening a new window on the screen, these fingers begin to fly across the keys, as a poem, addressed to herself, swiftly stakes its claim on the stark whiteness of a blank Word document. She sits stunned, as a spiritual “wake-up” call, stares back at her from the screen. In a matter of minutes, a mystical energy had caught her imagination; sparking her latent creativity and culminating in the creation of her poem.’

Believe! is a call for Sue and all, to believe in their own abilities and go forward with their dreams.

Sue is keen to emphasise that collaboration is at the heart of the book. The anthology contains contributions from those that Sue has met during her own self development journey. Local writers include;  Andrea Soonius, a Doctor of Chiropractic, Business Coach Lynda Holt, Intuitive Transformational Coach Natasha Aburdarham Black and Elizabeth Beecham who is a Health Journalist.

Sue says; ‘It is with gratitude to all those who participated in this project, that I invite readers to learn from their experiences and shared tips to confirm and strengthen their own beliefs in their own dreams, their own legacy and their own power’

Sue took early retirement from the Civil Service in 2010. She is now a poet, author and spiritual practitioner. Sue was shortlisted for a national Women Inspiring Women award for her poetry in June 2012. It is only since leaving her job where she worked in the field of careers information and guidance for adults, that she has discovered her talent for poetry. ‘I started to write morning pages (a process of writing first thing in the morning on waking up, recommended by Julia Cameron in her book “The Artists Way”). To my surprise and delight, after three weeks of writing daily – anything and everything that came to mind – my words began to come out in rhyme! Increasingly, I became more creative in the way that I was expressing myself. To the extent that I started writing poems about events, courses and experiences that I was attending. I also found that people began to ask me to write poems as a new and innovative way to illustrate their businesses, as well as for special birthdays and occasions.’  Sue now features regularly on the Poets Corner programme on Kenilworth’s Radio Abby.

Believe! The Gift of Inspiration For Female Entrepreneurs will be celebrated at an event on 10 May at The Four Seasons Function Room, Coventry. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear some of the contributors share their personal stories and talk about how they feel about being involved with the book. The event will also raise funds for the Nuneaton and Bedworth Doorway charity. Tickets can be purchased at:  http://believecelebration-es2005.eventbrite.co.uk/?rank=1

Sue’s second book Believe In You, Believe In Your Story, a memoir about her own experiences is also available now on Kindle.  This was produced as part of another collaborative project with I AM WOMAN Business Clubs.

Sue will also talk about her motivations for and findings from writing both of these books on 22 May at Coventry Library.
