BROOKLYN, N.Y. - May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- The 2013 Art of Brooklyn Film Festival is proud to present the World Premiere of RESCUE! BROOKLYN, a documentary about Sean Casey Animal Rescue (SCAR) directed by Brooklyn-based independent filmmaker Charlie Spickler. SCAR is a grass-roots “No Kill” shelter in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn and an integral animal rescue resource in the NYC area.

RESCUE! BROOKLYN opens the third annual AoBFF on Wednesday, May 15 at 7:30PM at St. Francis College’s Founders Hall Theater (190 Remsen St. Brooklyn NY 11201.)

Some highlights from the film:

• Sean’s capture and rescue of Prospect Park’s famously elusive “Ghost Dog,” a Cane Corso who had survived for four years in the park until he became sick. Charlie Spickler was able to get this moment on camera by following Sean for hours until he finally brought Ghost Dog in for medical care. SCAR is currently reviewing over 100 applications to adopt him.

• The amazing story of John the dog, a stray puppy who was found in a parking lot, emaciated and couldn’t move at all except to blink. Sean had resigned himself to the fact that John would not live through the night, but somehow he survived. His slow, steady journey of recovery became a global Facebook phenomenon, with animal lovers from all over the world donating to John’s medical expenses and drawing inspiration from his story.

RESCUE! BROOKLYN is more than just a documentary about animal rescue. It's a true Brooklyn story of compassion, community and second chances — for both the animals that are saved, and the army of dedicated volunteers who make SCAR’s mission possible.

About the Director:
Charlie Spickler began his life in the entertainment industry as a theatre / film electrician. This led to a 10-year career as lighting designer. Charlie’s work was seen everywhere from Off-Broadway to Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Then, like all good creative people he decided what he really wanted to do was direct. Charlie’s film directorial debut “Whacked”, a 21-minute comedy starring Bryan Callen (MadTV, OLD SCHOOL, BAD SANTA), is the story of a filmmaker who borrowed money from the mob to make a film and now can’t pay it back. Shot on 16mm in 2 days, “Whacked” has won several festival awards including the best short film at the 1998 Ohio Independent Film Festival, Special Selection at the Ohio International Film Festival and the Silver Award at the Atlantic City Film Festival. “Whacked” is being distributed by Big Film Shorts. Charlie is currently in pre-production on a Sci-Fi Feature film called “Marie’s Zero Gravity Bar and Grill starring Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Jonathan Woodward (Firefly and Buffy as well) slated to go into production in late 2013. Charlie is a partner in C Squared Pictures; a full service production house located in Brooklyn, NY.

About The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival
The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival was founded in 2010 to create a large-scale platform for independent film in Kings County. The AoBFF is unique because filmmakers must have a “Brooklyn connection” in order to be eligible. That means cast or crew were born and raised or live in Brooklyn, or the film was shot in or inspired by the Borough. The AoBFF screens world premieres, features, shorts, documentary, horror and experimental/avant garde films.
