Mailani’s heart is deeply rooted in Windward O’ahu, especially in the Ko’olaupoko area where she was raised. Her dream moving forward is to forge a tight-knit community focused on music and culture.
When asked about her motivation for continuing her career as a Hawaiian music artist Mailani said:
“It’s my heart’s desire to build a community rooted on the windward side with musicians, dancers, and cultural practitioners, to continue our culture, language, and dance as native Hawaiians. We will all support each other as we move forward together in creating the future. We will not forget our history, our humble beginnings, and all who shared their mana’o with us to help us grow.”
Mailani’s latest offering Manawa, features five original compositions by Mailani Makainai, Cody Matsuda, Kau’i Dalire, & Kupu Dalire-Na’auao. Also included are some traditional hula favorites including Johnny K. Almeida’s Green Rose Hulaand Hali’ilua, which takes you the island of Hawai’i. Mailani’s latest musical journey will have your heart and soul longing for more.
At the concert, expect to be enchanted by the hula styles of the Dalire 'Ohana with Keolalaulani Halau Olapa O Laka, Kumu Hula Aloha Dalire; Halau Ka Lihilihilehua O Hopoe Kuikakani, Kumu Hula Kau’i Dalire, and Halay Ka Liko Pua ‘O Kalaniakea, Kumu Hula Kapua Dalire. The Dalire ‘Ohana will be available to educate and answer any questions about hula in the Kane’ohe area. They have a long lineage of creating hula and perpetuating our Hawaiian Culture on the windward side. Other special guests include Jerry Santos, Teresa Bright, Manu Boyd and Ho'o Apo, who all have deep ties and a love for the windward side.
It will be an afternoon and evening filled with some of the best Hawaiian music, hula, food, and maybe even a few Hawaiian crafters. Treat mom to an afternoon or evening out on her special day with us.
