By: HJN Consulting Inducted in 2004 to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Barrett Strong is a pivotal figure in Detroit's history as a singer, writer and composer. "Money (That's What I Want)” for Anna Records in 1960 provided vital capital for Berry Gordy Jr. to expand his operation. The song gave Mr. Strong his only major hit as a vocalist, reaching #2 on the R&B charts and barely missing the pop Top 20. "Money" is one of the most widely covered songs including a cool version by "The BEATLES." An All-Star line-up of Local and National Recording Artists-Musicians are slated to perform and delight the audience with their favorite Strong/Whitfield hits. Including: The Fellas, Judd Harris, Eliza Neals, Danni Gee, Julien, Lizz Kristi, Steven Feifke, Sal Carolei, Tyrone Smith, Jent LaPalm, Michael Gallante, Shane Visbal, Debra Devi, Paul Orbel, Chris Ams and the Drew Schultz Funk Machine backing up this historic night. During the late '60s and early '70s, Mr.Strong collaborated with the late writer/producer Norman Whitfield on historic songs including "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby," "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," "Ball of Confusion," "War," "Just My Imagination," With 'Motown The Musical' on Broadway, now's the time to celebrate and talk with one of the most iconic songwriters ever. In a time when songwriters are forgotten, Barrett Strong will be remembered for his staggering array of hits then and now. Mr. Strong himself will take the stage for an intimate 'behind the music' Q&A session where he will tell the stories behind the songs and talk about what it took to make it in the Motor City. To top off the night, one of a kind, handwritten signed lyrics of the songs "Papa was a Rolling Stone," and "Can't Get Next to You" with original signed 45s will be sold at the event. "An Evening with Motown Legend Barrett Strong" is presented by Mr. Strong's musical protege' and good friend, recording artist, multiple award winning Rock-Blues performer and songwriter Eliza Neals. http://ElizaNeals.com All proceeds will go to Mr. Strong's medical and living expenses.
