Follow on Google News | What Do Ostrich Eggs And 40 Artists Have In Common?Talent to incubate artistic creations on ostrich eggs and beyond; generate funds to help keep 388 babies HIV free since 1996
By: NorCal Press "Before joining the Hope Board at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, I had no idea that a baby born to an HIV-Positive mother could be delivered HIV free and stay that way for the rest of their lives." states Kristen Wheatley, past president of the Hope Board. Dr. Patricia Garcia, MD, MPH is the founder and director of the Women’s HIV program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She goes on to say, “There has been no transmission of HIV to any baby born to an HIV-positive mom at our clinic since 1996.” Dr. Garcia also co-directed and helped founded the Perinatal Rapid Testing Initiative in Illinois which implemented HIV rapid testing in every labor and delivery unit in the state. The Hope Board sponsors two events yearly to help support the Women’s HIV Clinic. The 11th Annual Art Auction is one of them and this year the auction will have a silent and new live auction with over 40 artists represented. Many create beautiful works on ostrich eggs, some do paintings on canvas, other artisans fabricate jewels and others produce photographs. The auction provides something for everyone’s taste and budget. Famous Lincoln Park painter Gary Weidner was one of the artists recently featured in Chicago Social (September 2012). Gary is best known for his work in the 2006 film The Breakup with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. He will be on hand with a painting for the auction.
