New Canadian online art gallery opens with a mission
FineArtCollector.ca was started by Hamilton resident Clayton Kenyon and Mark Skeffington of Brantford.
“Our mission is to make buying original art an easy, affordable and enjoyable experience,”
Kenyon, 34, said they want to help educate people that owning an original art work does not have to cost a fortune. “People who love art and want to own art, shouldn’t be afraid. People can start off with one good piece and gradually add pieces over the years. A well-chosen original art work will also hold its value or increase in value over the years, compared to a print or mass-produced picture.”
FineArtCollector.ca also features a blog, which will include stories about art collecting, art news, stories about artists and related information. Social media will also be used extensively.
The two art collectors have launched www.fineartcollector.ca with works by 12 respected Canadian artists. Seven Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) – the highest recognition a Canadian artist can achieve -- artists are featured: David Blackwood, J.W. Beatty, William Ronald, Tom Roberts, Stanley Cosgrove, Adrian Dingle and Otto Jacobi.
FineArtCollector.ca features historical, contemporary and “value art,” with prices from $200 to $5,000. Styles and mediums include landscapes, portraits, abstracts, First Nations art.
Since the art gallery is online, rather than housed in a building, the two collectors say they can offer works at very competitive prices, less than what they would sell for at an art dealer or in an auction.
“You’re starting to see more online art galleries and art auctions, and the trend is just going to continue,” said Skeffington. “More people are comfortable with buying art online, and we can ship a piece anywhere in Canada.”
