girltank Launches Global Crowdfunding Platform for Social Change Projects Led by Inspirational Women

Crowdfunding platform connects supporters to international change agents

ATLANTA - May 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Atlanta – May 1, 2013 – girltank, a global community that helps women fulfill their goals as change agents and social entrepreneurs, will launch their new crowdfunding platform on May 1st, 2013. The crowdfunding campaign launch features the stories and projects of eight women social entrepreneurs from around the world and has an initial goal to raise $250,000 by June 1st from supporters around the world.

Atlanta-based Tara Roberts, co-founder of girltank explains, “There are a lot of exciting crowdfunding platforms out there; people need money for good work. But girltank is more than just another crowdfunding source, it’s a community-funding platform. We’ve found that supporters care about the projects and the causes, but they also are deeply interested in the change agents themselves. The characteristics, qualities and adventures of our girltankers are just as intriguing, mind-blowing and inspirational as their ventures.” girltank concentrates on a few entrepreneurs and their projects at a time in order to support them through the entire process." Roberts put it simply, “We are in it with them.”

Current projects on the platform fall under these categories: arts, community development, education, environment, health, media, sports, technology. Karima Grant’s “ImagiNation Afrika” supports the first children’s museum in Africa. Noreen Bautista and Anne Mariposa turn a pesky plant in the Philippines into eco-fashionable, stylish handbags and journals while providing jobs for rural women. Kimberly Bryant’s “Black Girls Code” helps girls of color in the U.S. learn how to code. All of the entrepreneurs and their projects are showcased on girltank’s website.
