DALLAS - May 6, 2013 - PRLog -- DALLAS - The Business Division of El Centro College of the Dallas County Community College District and the School of Human Sciences at Stephen F. Austin State University have agreed to a comprehensive articulation agreement between El Centro's fashion marketing and Stephen F. Austin's fashion merchandising academic programs.

Under the new collaborative agreement, students will study two years at El Centro, earn an Associate in Applied Sciences degree in Fashion Marketing, transfer and study two more years at Stephen F. Austin, and ultimately earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Merchandising.

"We are thrilled with this latest educational partnership with Stephen F. Austin," said ECC president Paul McCarthy.  "This articulation agreement not only benefits both of our colleges, but helps all of us - colleges, businesses, cities - to work together to develop, improve, and provide educational opportunities that will create a highly skilled workforce that is vitally important for long-term success in Texas and around the globe."  

Stephen F. Austin State University president Dr. Baker Pattillo will join Dr. McCarthy and other representatives from both schools along with Dallas area business leaders and fashion industry insiders at a formal signing ceremony on Tuesday, May 7,at 1:00 p.m. at El Centro's downtown campus.

The new El Centro and Stephen F. Austin fashion marketing/merchandising articulation agreement represents an example of President Obama's "Building American Skills Through Community Colleges" higher education initiative to make higher education more accessible, affordable, and attainable for all American families.  The agreement also complies with the state's "College for All Texans" strategic plan that seeks to prepare individuals for a changing economy and workforce.

Stephen F. Austin State University (http://www.sfasu.edu) is a comprehensive, regional institution located in Nacogdoches, Texas. The university enrolls approximately 13,000 students and offers 83 undergraduate majors and 120 areas of study within six academic colleges - business, education, fine arts, forestry and agriculture, sciences and mathematics, and liberal and applied arts. An academic program in Human Sciences has been offered at SFA since the university opened in 1923. The school has academic majors in Child/Family Development, Food, Nutrition & Dietetics, Interior Design, Interior Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, Hospitality Administration,and Family and Consumer Sciences.
