Follow on Google News | Bladerunner Farms Releases the Lowrider Zoysiasgrass SeriesBladerunner Farms announces the release of two new zoysiagrasses in the Lowrider Series. Because of their lateral growth pattern, they “ride low” along the ground, these zoysiagrasses require very little mowing.
The Lowrider Zoysias are extremely low maintenance grasses. They offer both drought tolerance and shade tolerance. But what makes these grasses special are their growth habit. Most of the growth of this grass goes to the roots, and horizontally across the lawn. What it doesn’t do is grow much vertically. This creates a strong, resilient lawn that requires infrequent mowing. Lowrider 1 is licensed to sod producers for production west of the Mississippi through Doguet Ventures (http://www.bladerunnerfarms.com/ John Cosper, executive director of the TPT, said the Cutlass name was chosen for commercial sale in Texas because the grass doesn’t need to be mowed often, a play on the words “cut less”, and the Oldsmobile Cutlass automobiles were some of the first “lowrider” David Doguet, president of Bladerunner Farms, and the breeder of the Lowrider Zoysiagrass Series, said he believes Cutlass is particularly suited to the Texas climate. “The hotter it gets, the greener it is. With its extensive root system, it recovers from drought very well,” Doguet said. East of the Mississippi, Lowrider 2, which has a slightly different leaf blade and color from Lowrider 1, is available for sod production license through The Turfgrass Group (http://www.theturfgrassgroup.com/ Both Lowrider 1 and Lowrider 2 are japonica type zoysias. The texture is finer than JaMur Zoysia (http://www.bladerunnerfarms.com/ As the grasses are just now entering into production, it may be more than a year before they are available for commercial sale.
