Truliant Awards Scholarship at Hispanic League’s Spanish Nite Gala

Truliant Federal Credit Union presented a scholarship at the Hispanic League’s 14th Annual Scholarship Awards and Spanish Nite Gala on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The Hispanic League awarded a record 34 students with scholarships this year.
 
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - April 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Truliant Federal Credit Union presented a scholarship at the Hispanic League’s 14th Annual Scholarship Awards and Spanish Nite Gala held at the at the Embassy Suites Hotel Grand Pavilion Ballroom on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The Hispanic League awarded a record 34 students with scholarships this year.

“Since the program’s inception in 2000, the Hispanic League has awarded 214 scholarships, totaling more than $400,000 to local, academically outstanding Hispanic students,” said Mari Jo Turner, executive director for the Hispanic League.

Cristian Pereda, risk management analyst for Truliant, presented a scholarship on the organization’s behalf to Salem College senior Zayda Parra. Additionally, Truliant received a Top Sponsor Award at the event.

The mission of the Hispanic League is to improve the quality of life for Hispanics and Latinos in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County by facilitating their inclusion, education and health and promoting multicultural understanding, dignity and respect, “Spanish Nite is considered one of our most important annual sponsorships because of its benefits to the community and future leaders,” said Marjorie Rorie, Truliant’s director of community services. “Truliant is proud to partner with and support such a great organization whose mission aligns with our own, to enhance lives in the community.”

More than 475 people attended the event which featured entertainment by Ricardo Diaquez & Tropic Orchestra and DJ, Edgar Menendez of WSNC FM.

The keynote speaker was Felicia Arriaga, an activist and scholar from a migrant family background who received scholarships to attend college and is now a PhD candidate at Duke University. She was the 2012 intern with Hispanics in Philanthropy, is the former recipient of the Southeastern United States Regional Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year Award and has worked with the Invisible Children's Movement.
