Hixson Examines the Global Food Safety Impact on Facilities

CINCINNATI - April 30, 2013 - PRLog -- Today’s food and beverage processors get inspected multiple times a year by multiple entities – all in an effort to protect food from farm to table.  The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) began in 2000 as a collaboration between businesses with an interest in protecting the safety of the food production and delivery processes while reducing the number of required inspections. In “Global Food Safety Impact on Facilities,” the latest Food Plant of the Future webinar sponsored by Hixson Architecture & Engineering and bnp publications, Hixson co-presenters Mark Cravens, R.A., and Chris Jarc, P.E., PMP, LEED AP, helped attendees:  
• Identify the differences between regulatory, customer-driven and industry-driven standards,
• Define the breadth of what GFSI covers and the different schemes that are available, and
• Become familiar with how GSFI standards impact the design and construction of food plants.

Within the hour-long webinar, Cravens and Jarc looked at three major areas: personnel, production and the facility, identifying the GFSI requirements for each key point and offering attendees Hixson’s insight on how the audit requirements impact facilities.

In the end, says Hixson’s Jarc, “processors who construct and maintain facilities that have Good Manufacturing Practices in place will be ahead of the game.”
