-- Every summer, parks, piers, plazas and pathways all over the country host some of best musical entertainment in the world--from Rock, Jazz, Classical, R&B, Hip Hop, Country, Salsa and Reggae to Folk music-- all absolutely free. FreeSummerConcerts.com, nine-year old online service founded by entrepreneur, Walt Goodridge, offers a convenient and free way to keep informed.
"Like many city residents, I was always hearing about free concerts I missed--usually a day or two after--when everyone was talking about how much fun they had," Goodridge explains, recounting how, in 2005, the idea for the site came to him. "So, one summer, I took the time to research and compile every event that was scheduled, created a little computer program to email myself and a few friends reminders of what was happening each week. Word spread, and the rest, as they say, is history!"
Now in its 9th summer season, the site and email service, is the leading summer event aggregator and boasts Google first page ranking, and its New York calendar alone offers over 1,600 events including Summerstage, Celebrate Brooklyn, Shakespeare in the Park, and the perennial Wingate Field and Seaside Concert series. The site has a subscriber base of over 10,000 whose support allows the site to offer it's unique one-stop 'shopping' for all the free concerts in a city. "It's a simple formula that we're now taking national," Goodridge adds, referring to the 2013 launch of the service in all 50 states and territores.
"Summer officially starts on June 21, but the FreeSummerConcerts fan community usually starts buzzing as early as January each year," Goodridge adds.
