SALT LAKE CITY - April 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Domain Surgical, a leading developer of advanced thermal surgical technology, today announced that Stephen P. MacMillan has joined the company's Board of Directors.

MacMillan is the former President and CEO of Stryker Corporation, one of the world's leading medical technology companies. During his seven-year tenure, the company's revenues more than doubled, from $3.6 billion to $8.7 billion. MacMillan is currently CEO of sBiomed, a biomedical infection control product firm, headquartered in Orem, Utah.

"We are thrilled to have Mr. MacMillan join Domain Surgical's Board of Directors," said David McNally, President and CEO of Domain Surgical. "His strategic perspective, first-hand experience, and in-depth knowledge of the medical device industry are invaluable to us as we continue to grow our company."

Domain Surgical has commercialized a new system for precise cutting and coagulation of soft tissue, the FMwand Ferromagnetic Surgical System. The FMwand uses pure thermal energy to cut and coagulate tissue, without passing electrical current through the patient. It has been shown to be safe and effective for dissecting around delicate tissues and structures such as nerves and blood vessels. The FMwand minimizes collateral tissue damage, causing as little as 1/10th the depth of thermal damage compared to standard electrocautery in some tissue types, preserving more viable, healthy tissue beyond the incisional plane.

"I believe Domain Surgical has the three key elements to build a strong presence in the medical device industry - a unique technology platform which will improve surgical outcomes, a dynamic team, and a large potential market with room for improvements," said Mr. MacMillan.

Mr. MacMillan served as Chief Executive Officer of Stryker from January 1, 2005 to February 2012 and served as its President from June 1, 2003 to February 2012.

Mr. MacMillan began his career with Procter & Gamble in 1985 and later spent 11 years with Johnson & Johnson in both the U.S. and Europe, and became President of the joint venture between Johnson & Johnson and Merck. In 2000, he joined Pharmacia Corporation's Executive Committee where he oversaw five global businesses with revenues exceeding $2 billion.

Mr. MacMillan has also served on the Board of Directors of Texas Instruments, the Greater Kalamazoo United Way and AdvaMed, and was a member of the Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Value & Science-Driven Health Care. In 2010, Mr. MacMillan was also appointed by the U.S. Commerce Secretary to a two-year term on the U.S. Manufacturing Council, a group which advised the administration on ideas to create more U.S. manufacturing jobs.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Davidson College and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
