Ooredoo, Mobily, and Du win TMT Finance Middle East North Africa 2013 Awards

April 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Qatar-headquartered Ooredoo Group, Saudi Arabia’s Mobily, and Du of Dubai were among this year’s winners at the fifth annual TMT Finance Middle East and North Africa Awards in Dubai this week.  

Ooredoo was awarded the highly contested Mobile Operator of the Year Award for its continued growth and innovation, coupled with impressive financial performance for the Middle East and North Africa region in 2012-2013. The Award rewards telecom operators for sustained high growth rates and aggressive competitive positioning while achieving strong profitability and low churn.

The TMT Finance and Investment Middle East and North Africa 2013 conference, now in its 7th year, is the region's largest gathering of international telecom leaders, financiers and advisers and a key annual thought leadership event for the telecom industry globally. The TMT Finance Middle East & North Africa Awards are reward achievements by the region's leading telecom companies, investment banks and legal advisers.

Mobily scooped two awards: ‘Broadband Operator of the Year’ and ‘Growth Story of the Year’, underpinning an impressive 2012-2013 for the operator. The “Growth Story of the Year Award” rewards telecom operators who expanded significantly in a market; while the Broadband Operator of the Year award is presented to telecom operators for investing in cutting edge broadband technologies and turning them into economically viable value propositions.

Osman Sultan, CEO, Du was named Outstanding CEO of the Year for demonstrating innovation, growth and value creation, and continued efficiency and profitability for Du; while Karim Khoja, CEO of Afghan operator Roshan also won a special commendation in the Global Leadership Award category, for his dedication and loyalty to the country’s telecommunications sector in the face of unique challenges.

Other award winners were Bahrain-based Batelco Group, and advisers Houlihan Lokey, Citi and BNP Paribas for the Deal of the Year; Citi for M&A Adviser of the Year, BNP Paribas for Financing Bank and Dentons for Law Firm of the Year.
