Follow on Google News | World Belly Dance Day Celebrations at The Brightwater CommonsWorld Belly Dance Day was just an idea started in a community forum by Lydia Tzigane from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The topic came and went but Lydia never forgot to pursue the cause and finally it was decided the date would be every year second Saturday of May. Celebrated since 2007, World Belly Dance Day has grown year on year with more and more countries participating each year. The event has been celebrated throughout South Africa for the past few years, and this year World Belly Dance Day is adding Johannesburg on the map. The mission is to unite the initiative of dancers around the world to celebrate the wonderful art of belly dance. Come enjoy spectacular performances by some of Gauteng’s top belly dance studios. Workshops will give interested parties the opportunity to learn a little bit more on the art of belly dancing, and get moving. To participate in 2 workshops and the shimmython the cost is R50. You will have the opportunity of learning from South Africa's very own Shimmy Queen, Bhana, and also meet the newly crowned Miss Belly Dance SA 2013, Bianca Pieters. Join in the World Belly Dance Day Shimmython to see if you can "out-shimmy" A market full of all things 'belly dancing' will be opened on the commons. Browse the colourful stalls and find out more. This dance is a fascinating art form that brings together different backgrounds, religions, countries, age groups and nationalities. All proceeds from World belly Dance Day will be donated to Paws R Us - so please bring along any donations, pet food, blankets & toys. Bring your friends and family for a fun and eventful day out!
