NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - April 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Sea Woods HOA of New Smyrna Beach Gain Recognition from Florida Communities of Excellence Award

(April 24, 2013—New Smyrna Beach, FL)

On April 5, 2013, the Homeowners Association of Sea Woods community, located in New Smyrna Beach, Florida gained the prestigious honor of being named the 2013 small community winner for the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Award, in the highly competitive Florida Communities of Excellence Competition. While three small communities were named finalists in the Florida-Friendly Landscaping division, Sea Woods HOA was dubbed the worthy winner.

Karey Hartwell, the Sentry Management Community Manager of Sea Woods HOA said, “The Board of Sea Wood’s Homeowner Association has proven to be an ideal and devoted committee. Never have I seen such dedication to the conservation and improvement of the natural aesthetics of a community, while maintaining eco-friendly initiatives. Their supervision over the landscaping and remodeling truly deserves recognition, and I can think of no better distinction than the 2013 Florida-Friendly Landscaping award from the Florida Communities of Excellence.”

The renovations set forth by Sea Woods HOA included enhancing the natural, lush setting through maintenance of existing trees and the addition of drought-tolerant species. Weeds and invasive species were eliminated through the use of propane torches as opposed to the use of chemicals. Coupling these advancements, Florida-Friendly plant varieties also replaced older species, in homeowners’ gardens and throughout the community. State-of-the-art irrigation systems were applied and storm water retention areas were sustained. Sea Woods community members were also encouraged to renovate their sod gardens to mulch and other Florida-Friendly alternatives. These groundbreaking approaches to landscaping raised the bar for fellow Florida communities.

Sea Woods is a residential subdivision located on the Atlantic Coast of Florida, in New Smyrna Beach. This beachside community is comprised of 358 single-family homes, condominiums, townhouses and villas. The community possesses a large clubhouse, three swimming pools, four tennis courts and a shuffleboard court. Residents are known to enjoy walking the miles of paved nature trails, lined with centuries of old live oak trees, plush ferns and abundant palmetto foliage, maintained by their innovative landscaping techniques. The trails connect various points in the subdivision to each other while providing a scenic route for residents to walk to the sandy beaches of the Atlantic, which is located less than 300 yards to the east. Also, close by are many natural sites of Volusia County, Florida, including seven miles of beautiful Atlantic beaches, bordered by Ponce Inlet on the north and Canaveral National Seashore on the south.
