April 21- April 27 is National Infertility Awareness Week

Next week is National Infertility Awareness Week and the perfect time to help educate couples that may be struggling to start a family.
One out of eight couples will experience fertility issues, and many struggle quietly for longer than they should.  Dr. Stephanie Singleton of The Fertility Center of Charleston explains, “After six months of trying to conceive without results, especially if the female is over the age of 35, it may be time to schedule a consult.   An evaluation can assure that the patient’s reproductive system appears normal or, if a problem is found, it can be addressed early in the process.”    There are basic tests, like semen analysis and hormonal testing that can help determine a diagnosis.  However, a fertility specialist will look for more specific indicators as well.  States Dr. Singleton, “At The Fertility Center of Charleston, we will evaluate infertility and provide treatment plans.   The patient stays with the same physician every step of the way.”
Fertility Factors
1.   Male Factor Infertility-   Infertility is not just a woman's issue.
Male Factor Infertility is responsible for up to 40% of infertility cases.
2.   Age--It isn’t just a number when it comes to fertility.
3.   Cost-Many delay fertility treatment because of finances.   However, there are programs to help offset the financial aspect of fertility.

Dr. Stephanie Singleton is the only female reproductive endocrinologist in the Charleston area.   The Fertility Center of Charleston is offering free consults to patients throughout the entire week in honor National Infertility Awareness Week.  To learn more, log onto www.fertilitycharleston.com.  To schedule an appointment, call 843-881-7400.
