Flurry of activity for the property market

Market reports and property investment analyst say that property investors are now racing to buy properties because of low prices and mortgage rates.  

RP Data, a research firm, recently released a study that the number of suburbs where it is more affordable to own a home, compared to paying rent, increased to 494 from 388 in December.  

The Reserve Bank of Australia added that Australian banks have also discounted their variable rates to 5.65 percent this year- the lowest rate since November 2009. The three-year fixed mortgage rates also dropped to 5.445 percent on February 28- The lowest recorded rate since 1990.

But contrary to growing opportunities for property investors, renters face the difficult task of saving up for a deposit, as seen with the decreasing number of first-time home-buyers in Australia.
