An Evening to Conquer Oral Cancer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - April 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Vancouver April 19 2013 - Perceptronix Medical Inc (PMI labs) and LED Dental announced today that the two companies will act as the main co-sponsors of “An Evening to Conquer Oral Cancer,” a fundraising event that supports oral cancer research and benefits the BC Cancer Foundation. The event will take place on April 25 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
The companies have commercialized two technologies used in the comprehensive examination of pathological conditions in the oral cavity. These technologies, LED’s tissue fluorescence visualization device Velscope® and PMI’s quantitative brush cytology test OralAdvance™, were invented at the BC Cancer Agency’s Research Centre. The two companies announced a Canada-wide commercial partnership initiative “Second Step Laboratory Services” in February 2012.
“As a transfer technology company we are very pleased to share the sponsorship with LED for such an important cause. Oral Cancer affects approximately 3,000 people in Canada every year. Currently oral cancer screening is performed at dental offices. Early detection of oral cancer is critical to saving lives because the earlier oral cancer is detected, the greater the chance of survival. Today, oral cancer is often detected in its late stages, with the five-year survival rate less than 50 per cent. When detected early the five-year survival rate leaps to more than 82 per cent.
