Witnesses described a scene in which a jovial atmosphere quickly turned to one of panic at the downtown Civic Center Park just before 5 p.m. Several thought firecrackers were being set off, then a man fell bleeding, his dog also shot. “This scene reminds me of the way the enemy of our souls deceives us,” says Bishop Ricky Sinclair. “When we do things contrary to the heart of God we may have a false sense of peace and joy for a season but there will always come a day of reckoning, a time of reaping what we have sown.”

"And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God." (Psalms 78:8) According to the Bible, anyone who does not have their heart set toward God is considered rebellious. We may be able to justify our actions such as drinking, abortion, and now, even smoking pot because it is legal by the government. But just because a political entity says it is okay doesn’t make it so in the eyes of our Creator. In all actuality, these actions put us in direct rebellion toward the Word of God. God isn’t a “buzzkill,” but He has set boundaries for our safety and well being and for those around us.

The article states there was a sizable police force on motorcycles and horses watching the celebration since its start earlier Saturday. But authorities looked the other way at public pot smoking here on April 20. They didn't arrest people for smoking in public, which is still illegal. I realize the person doing the shooting was probably high on something other than marijuana but the atmosphere lends itself to that sort of thing. Despite what many say, marijuana is a gateway drug.

The Bible says in Proverbs 28:9, “If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.” Sinclair states that when we ignore people doing wrong then we are enabling their defiance which will bring about more tragedy in their life in the long run. Society and those in authority need to stand for what is right and just. We have to be so mindful of the outcome of our decisions. Should we choose to turn a blind eye it could result in a worse situation as was seen with the shooting incident. One thing will always lead to another.

Instead of condemning, Christians need to pray for people who do not see the error of their ways. Ask God to prepare their hearts for change and pray that someone will be sent to share the truth with them. “I pray they accept the Word of God and allow it to change their lives, bringing them great peace and direction,” Bishop Ricky Sinclair stated.
