TRURO, U.K. - April 25, 2013 - PRLog -- FILM COMPANY ‘FLOATS’ NEW DVD FOR RELAXATION AND THERAPY AID

Get some calm in your life! Specialist film company Calmer By Nature will release its third DVD in June, called Calmer by the Water. The company creates unique DVDs of the British countryside without people or music, just nature’s sounds and silences, allowing you to tune out the clatter of modern life and connect with the natural world.

After a period of severe stress in his own life, CEO Barry Wheelock began to film rare moments in nature; wild deer in the forest, birds feeding their young, close encounters with badgers and foxes in the moonlight, or even just wildflowers nodding in the breeze. Not only did Barry find comfort in the British countryside, but it kindled a passion for wildlife that has enabled him to help others suffering from stress, Alzheimer’s, sensory problems and even some mental illnesses.

“One of the things I wanted to do was to share this with other people. It’s a joy to me to know it’s helping people.” says Barry.

The DVDs offer a positive and therapeutic effect from simply observing nature, leading to mindfulness and sensory awareness. They are popular with people who need to relax and find some tranquillity, as well as those who are simply unable - perhaps through illness or infirmity - to get out into the countryside. The films are also a key therapy aid used by healthcare professionals across a range of specialisations, including sensory therapy, autism, ADHD and CBT.

"Calmer By Nature offers a great therapeutic resource, a tool ... to help clients with a range of different presentations - from use as a self soothe strategy, to enabling assessment of children in care, to facilitating reminiscence. Something that can be used in so many different ways, especially when access to the great 'green gym' of the healing outdoors is restricted." says Kath Smith, award winning occupational therapist and Director of MBB Connections.

“I highly recommend the  DVDs, whether you’re dealing with autism in your family or just want some stress relief.”  says Debi Taylor, Autism Research Specialist, author and speaker. “We still love the DVD and CD and use it frequently”.

These experiences are backed up by numerous medical studies *over the past 20 years, which suggest experiencing natural scenes and sounds can speed up recovery times in patients and significantly reduce both anxiety and the need for pain relief.

The new DVD, Calmer by the Water, will be released in June from www.calmerbynature.com  and will feature footage of the waterfront and its wildlife, as well as serene sailing boats, such as those on the River Fal in Cornwall, which were shot from onboard Barry’s own classic yawl, Windrush.

Filming the waterside is “a natural extension [of my work]” says Barry, “I’ve captured magical footage of river scenes over the years and the water has a wilderness quality which provides an easy escape.”

About Calmer by Nature

Would you like to escape to the soothing world of nature whenever you feel the need? This was what prompted the founding of Calmer by Nature by Barry Wheelock in 2007. Although based in rural Cornwall, all the DVDs and the CD were recorded across southern England, including Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and Hampshire.

The recordings and footage contain no people, voiceovers or music so the audience can be soothed by the sights and sounds of nature uninterrupted. These precious and relaxing moments in the wild are appreciated by those with dementia, or the elderly who can’t, or don’t want to listen or follow a plot. The films are used and recommended by healthcare professionals around the world as a therapy to aid stress, autism, dementia, ADHD, sensory problems, depression, tinnitus, insomnia and special needs. Their appeal and value has also been recognised in the national press, with the films recommended for use everywhere from hospitals to business lobbies to airport lounges.
