NEW YORK - April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The City University of New York’s (CUNY) CREST Institute is holding a three and a half day conference titled "ISCCP at 30" from April 22nd to 25th 2013 at the City College of New York marking the 30th anniversary of the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP).  The conference serves as a venue to review and assess what has been learned about the role of cloud processes in weather and climate, and as an opportunity to discuss where cloud research should go next. The conference is sponsored by the World Climate Research Program's Global Energy and Water Exchanges (GEWEX) project and by participating satellite agencies, NASA, NOAA, EUMETSAT, JMA and INPE. The conference will feature several invited presentations and contributed papers.

The International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) was established in 1982 as part of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) to collect weather satellite radiance measurements and to analyze them to infer the global distribution of clouds, their properties, and their diurnal, seasonal and interannual variations. The resulting datasets and analysis products are being used to study the role of clouds in climate, both their effects on radiative energy exchanges and their role in the global water cycle.
