WANTED: Girls with Passion for the Science and Engineering!

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey and Johnson and Johnson host W.I.S.E. Exploration – a program to motivate our girls to help build our future! featuring Keynote speaker Dr. Becky Leibowitz, ETHICON, Medical Device and Diagnostics.

April 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey and Johnson & Johnson will host the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Exploration Fair at Johnson & Johnson, 199 Grandview Road, Skillman, NJ on Saturday, May 11 from 1p.m. – 3p.m. The event is open to all girls, grades 4 – 8. The cost is $15 per girl for members of Girl Scouts ($27 for non-members). Participants will earn a badge and receive a swag bag plus other take-aways and refreshments.

The WISE Exploration Fair is a great way to further inspire girls who have an interest in science, technology, engineering and robotics as they take part in fun, innovative and hands-on activities. Participants have the opportunity to engage in discussions with successful women scientists and engineers and experience an interactive demonstration by students from FIRST Robotics Team 75 and explore S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and math) career opportunities.

The keynote speaker for the fair is Becky Leibowitz, a Staff Engineer at ETHICON, a division of Johnson and Johnson
situated on the Medical Device and Diagnostics side in the health care industry. Ms. Leibowitz has developed groundbreaking new products used in surgery around the world to help doctors and nurses treat and heal their patients. She holds several US patents and is currently designing plastic gadgets that will help surgeons apply flowable sealants to stop bleeding and seal leaks during surgery.

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) is proud to be part the WISE Exploration Fair. Studies show only 11% of engineers are women and girls start to lose interest in science as young as age 8. The Girl Scout movement is working hard to change that statistic with program events such as WISE. GSHNJ offers unparalleled programs, events and opportunities for girls ages 5-17 in Arts & Culture, Community Service, Health & Fitness, Outdoors & Camping, Financial Literacy and S.T.E.M.
