OIC President/CEO Receives Prestigious Award

OIC’s Newton Sanon Receives 2013 African-American Achievers Award
 
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - April 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) of South Florida is proud to announce that President and CEO, Newton B. Sanon is one of the recipients of the prestigious African American Achiever Awards presented by JM Family Enterprises on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Broward County Convention Center.  The event was hosted by Calvin Hughes, the Emmy Award-winning newscaster and co-anchor of Local 10’s evening news broadcasts.

One of the six inspiring individuals recognized, Newton Sanon has dedicated his career to helping underserved members of the community realize their potential for greatness.  In 2000, he became the project director for a Broward Community College program offering tutoring and mentoring to middle school students living in low-income housing developments.  Currently as President and CEO of Opportunities Industrialization Center of South Florida (OIC), he runs a community-based agency that provides job and life skills training and employment opportunities to disadvantaged residents with the goal of helping them to become self-sufficient, productive members of the community. Newton works hard to promote OIC's diverse programming, including job readiness for ex-offenders to re-acclimate to society, teen pregnancy prevention and health initiatives, substance abuse treatment and education, and vocational training.

OIC wishes to extend congratulations to the other recipients, Dinizulu Gene Tinnie for Arts& Culture, Albert & Bérénice Chauvet for Business & Entrepreneurism, Fedrick Ingram for Education and Rashard Johnson for the Jerome Edmund Gray Youth Achiever Award.
