Potomac Synagogue to Hold Hair Donation Charity Event 4/28/13

POTOMAC, Md. - April 19, 2013 - PRLog -- Congregation Har Shalom, in Potomac, MD, is hosting a Locks of Love haircutting event to coincide with La Ba’Omer, a traditional date for haircuts in the Jewish tradition.  Children and adults will be having their hair cut, to donate to children suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions.   The event will take place at Congregation Har Shalom, from 9 am to noon, on Sunday, April 28.

Rabbi Adam Raskin of Congregation Har Shalom states, “Our Locks of Love initiative combines the ancient Jewish custom of getting haircuts on Lag Ba’Omer with an extraordinary mitzvah for people undergoing cancer treatment.”

Lag Ba’Omer is a day of celebrations, weddings, bonfires, and haircuts.  This day is recognized in the Jewish community as a 24 hour break from a 7 week period, from Passover to Shavuot, when such celebrations are not allowed.

Congregation Har Shalom has partnered with 5 Star Mobile Salon out of Sterling, VA, who will be providing complimentary haircuts.   Participants agree to donate 10 or more inches of hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization which has been creating hair pieces for children for 15 years.   Har Shalom invites the general public to receive complimentary haircuts and donate their hair through this event.

Har Shalom is a progressive, egalitarian, participatory Conservative Jewish congregation with over 700 families.  Har Shalom is located at 11510 Falls Road in Potomac, MD.
