London Marathon: recovery guide released as runners make final preparations

As London Marathon preparations reach the final stages, the UK's new dedicated running injury website releases a new guide for runners to help them recover from the 26.2 miles.

LONDON - April 19, 2013 - PRLog -- New guidance for marathon runners has been released, as elite athletes and fun runners prepare to toe the line for the 33rd London Marathon.

The UK's dedicated running injury recovery site, www.runninginjury.co.uk, has launched its London Marathon Recovery Guide - a 25-step recovery plan to help runners make a full and effective recovery from the race.

Founder of http://www.runninginjury.co.uk, Jamie de Sylva, noted that running the London Marathon is not just an enormous accomplishment.  It is also a hugely taxing activity for your body, which will need help to recover.

He added that "while runners receiver a huge amount of advice on preparations for the race itself, there is precious little guidance on how to set about recovering from the marathon. And yet this aspect is crucially important.  This provided for the motivation for the new guide."

Jamie de Sylva further highlighted research on the impact of the race.  "The available evidence indicates that the stresses London marathon runners will face will on Sunday will weaken muscles, cause cellular damage and weaken the immune system.  But the good news is that there are a few key steps that can make a big difference to runners' recovery."

The RUNNINGINJURY.co.uk guide, which spells out these key recovery steps, is currently available free with every order at

With recent events at the Boston Marathon casting a potential cloud over Sunday's race, Jamie de Sylva also stressed the importance of runners keeping a close eye on changes to arrangements for Sunday.  The London Marathon will now be marked by a period of silence lasting 30 seconds prior to the start of the elite men's race and mass start; security arrangements are also being stepped up.
