Here are the details with Microsoft's new subscription model for Office 365 products. To subscribe or not to subscribe.
April 18, 2013 - PRLog -- So Microsoft's newest iteration of it's cloud based Office product is called Office 365.  Which is right for you?  Here are some details.

•  Microsoft's stand alone Office 2013 product is:

•Home & Student ($140 per PC) Excel, OneNote, Powerpoint, Word
•Home & Business ($220 per PC) Excel, OneNote, Powerpoint, Word, Outlook
•Professional ($400 per PC).Excel, OneNote, Powerpoint, Word, Outlook, Access. You also get 5 Gig of SkyDrive storage.

Microsoft's cloud based service is Office 365.

•Office 365 Home Premium ($100/yr) good for 5 machines. So if you have 5 computers it's $20 each per year.
Office 365 University ($80/4 years for 5 computers.  Both of these include Excel, Access, OneNote, Outlook, Powerpoint, Publisher, Word.  Also 200 Gig SkyDrive storage, 60 minutes of Skype world calls/month.
• Office Small Business Premium ($150/yr) Includes all of the above plus InfoPath and Lync. Good for 2 licenses per user.  Shared calendar, 25 gig mailbox with anti spam and antivirus. There is cloud storage but the details are not clear.
• There is a Office on Demand feature.  If you're at a friends house you can download a virtualized version of the product so you can work at a different location.

So....if you have more than 2 computers Office 365 is very cost effective.  You would pay $280 using the traditional boxed version but on $50 per machine using the Office 365.  Here is the get the upgrades as part of the subscription for Office 365.  All the products are cross platform (Windows and Mac.)  There are other details but this is the main points and differences.
