The overwhelming popularity of this young brewery has raised many eyebrows - and mugs!
Owner and head brewer of City Star says, "You never know what to expect in entering a competition; Wine Country Network, Inc, publishers of Wine Country International Magazine and producers of the Denver International Beer Competition recently announced the 2013 list of winning beers. Winners were selected by a panel of 15 certified beer judges who tasted beers in the blind competition. The competition received 183 entries, representing a 40% increase over 2012 entries. This year judges awarded 91 medals in all. For additional competition details and a full list of winners visit http://www.denverbeercomp.com/ City Star Brewing offers small batch American ales, hand crafted on a 3.5 barrel brew system in the heart of downtown Berthoud, Colorado. John Way and Whitney Taylor, owners of the 11 month old brewing company, believe beer is best consumed fresh, directly from its source, and they've adopted a taproom-centric model encouraging this. An additional draw to the brewery is the 100 year old building it's housed in, rich with history: Sim Jefferes operated the bustling City Star Barn livery stable on the brewery site until the automobile age forced him from horse to gasoline-powered vehicles. In 1914 Jefferes began to sell Overland, Apperson and Winton automobiles. In 1915 Jefferes razed the landmark barn and built the Jefferes Garage building that the local newspaper described as “ahead of anything in northern Colorado in size and general appearance." City Star Brewing will celebrate their 1 year anniversary on May 4th 12pm-12am, featuring special beer tappings, brewery tours, dunk tank for charity, and late night music with the Carbone Family Bluegrass Band. In addition the brewery will be revealing a new merchandise area and rolling out a brand new "mug club" program. City Star's taproom is open 7 days a week: Mon-Tues 2-9pm, Wed-Fri 2-10pm, Sat 12-10pm and Sun 12-9pm.
