SOUTH BEND, Ind. - April 11, 2013 - PRLog -- The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is the most effective anti-poverty program in the United States. EITC helps to advance the common good in communities by encouraging work, reducing poverty, helping families meet basic needs, and improving children’s academic achievement. Additionally, the Child Tax Credit (CTC) can help to reduce child poverty by boosting credit per child and allowing families’ access to the refundable component of the credit when earnings surpass a certain amount.

Between now and April 15, United Way is encouraging you to weigh-in with important members of Congress in support of EITC and CTC. United Ways across the nation support both EITC and CTC, which help working families become financially stable.

By protecting EITC and CTC, you can help working families. Visit http://www.capwiz.com/unitedway/issues/alert/?alertid=62563496&type=CO to take action and send a letter to Congress.

United Way has been actively engaged in the tax policy debate, has worked exclusively with tax policy issues, and has been leading the sector-wide effort to preserve the charitable deduction.

United Way of St. Joseph County is a nonprofit organization working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. It works closely with local agency and collaborative partners to find solutions to our community’s greatest problems and to improve the quality of life in St. Joseph County.
