April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- CheapOshopper.com utilizes social gaming to market its website.

Some experts say and write to use Twitter, use Facebook, what's your social marketing campaign and strategy? It's all in the analytics. Analyze the data and pinpoint your market. Try to find your customers and cater to them. Blah. Blah. Blah. CheapOshopper.com is one of the first sites not to even think about this stuff. In truth, the founders are a bunch of gamers that decided, "Let's name our players and teams on social games, CheapOshopper.com!" and it worked. Even went viral.

Another founder said, "Won't other gamers hate us if we beat them badly?"

The other said, "So what?"

"We could get attacked by some genius kid with a ddos!" For the elite speak impaired, Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDOS).

Well, the founders who prefer to be anonymous in this article were right. Initially, their site went down a few times from angry competitors in the social gaming sphere. Even some wrote curse words towards them, but after some time, the attacks slowed and stopped because as one founder said with a smile, "Our frenemies (friend enemies) saw that our site could get them laptops on sale, t-shirts, luxury goods, tickets to Cancun, and even bars of soap."

So what is CheapOshopper.com? Basically, it's another shopping comparison site that covers the spectrum from Louis Vuitton to Walmart goods, but the cool thing is that you can also search coupons.

"The annoying thing about Groupon or TravelZoo is that you have to signup and get spam all the time, and we just wanted to search for stuff we wanted without having to have marketing campaigns flooding our inbox," one of the founders said, "so we created this site."

"Was there any thoughts about modeling your site after Google?" I asked.

"Why yes," a founder responded. "Google is a great search engine, but I never really liked the shopping search. We know Google for general search, not for shopping."

If you notice, the CheapOshopper.com logo changes from time to time. At one point, it was advertising World Health Day and this month the birthstone of April. The diamond is in the middle of the penny letter O.

"We know that some people just want to find deals easily, so we added a changing logo with a diamond in the middle this month. If you click the logo, you get diamond coupons. For World Health Day, you would see coupons for healthy lifestyle before."

"So you advertise diamonds and World Health Day, those are two completely contrasting categories. Any reason for that?" I asked.

"Well," one founder paused. "We wanted to add holidays into the changing logo, but also keep shopping things on there."

"Also," the other founder interjected, "I was a Peace Corps volunteer, and I wanted to add Arbor Day and Earth Day in addition to Mother's Day despite my partner's marketing of typical, consumption products.

"Ah," I realized. "You're contrasting beliefs are driving the logo theme."

"Yes," the founders both responded and laughed.

"Our contrasting styles led to the project. It just shows that you can find anything on CheapOshopper.com," one of the founders continued. "We just wanted to find the easiest way to find what we want and not have to deal with the noise from other sites. Plus, our personality clash kept and keeps the project interesting and creative. Like Jobs and Woz." They are referring to Apple's founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

"What do you think of all those other gamers out there that are using your name?" I asked.

"It's flattering," the former Peace Corps volunteer/founder said. "I guess some names out there are CheapOshop.com, CheapOshopping.com, et cetera and gamers just thought it was funny to use those names. It helps us out a lot. My goal is to bring some of the revenue if not all back to the community when all is said and done. It's really my goal to translate shopping into a benefit for society."

The other founder laughed. "Okay, can we play some games already?"
